Netflix is introducing a fresh "AI Discover" tab designed to give viewers innovative ways to uncover their next watch, the company revealed Tuesday. The inaugural experimental feature within this tab will offer recommendations tailored to users' current moods. Viewers can select from curated themes that include clips from various shows and movies, categorized by mood, viewing habits, available time, or trending content. Among the themes are "something light," "scare me," "family movie night," "quick watches," and others.

This new tab signals Netflix's intention to simplify navigation through its expanding content library, moving away from the endless scrolling model toward a more personalized, AI-driven discovery experience. According to Netflix, AI Discover operates on a new intelligence layer the company has been developing, which reacts to user input in real time and continuously learns.

After choosing a theme, users will receive matching suggestions. They can further refine their search by selecting more specific themes until they find something appealing, or they can hit "something different" to reset. Every title includes a "Tune Your Recommendations" button next to "Play" and "My List," letting users save liked suggestions or block titles they don't want to see again.

"There's more to enjoy and discover on Netflix than ever, but what sounds right for a quiet night in may look different for family movie night or a few spare minutes," Netflix explained in a blog post. "We've spent years refining how you discover, with recommendations tailored to your tastes, from what you Thumbs Up to what you add to 'My List.' Now, AI Discover joins the mix as a new way to explore."

Netflix characterizes AI Discover as its "test kitchen," where it will "try out new recipes for discovery." The company states that user feedback will guide decisions on which features to retain or enhance before integrating them into the main Netflix experience. AI Discover is beginning its rollout in the U.S. for English-language users on supported TVs. Netflix intends to expand the tab to more users in the weeks ahead. Those with access will spot a "Discover" button featuring a red gem icon and a "New" label in the top navigation bar on their TV.
