SpaceX's AI Pivot Pays Off: Grok Agents and Data Centers Drive 52% of Revenue as Q3 Hits $14.6 Billion

SpaceX's data centers and Grok agents delivered stronger-than-expected profits for investors in the year's second quarter, as the company moves away from its origins as a space enterprise to concentrate on artificial intelligence—a segment now accounting for 52% of its income. On Tuesday, Elon Musk's sprawling conglomerate announced $14.6 billion in third-quarter revenue. Growth across all segments fueled that figure, particularly its rebranded "Super Intelligence" business line, which encompasses the recently acquired Cursor coding tool, the Grok bot, and most significantly, the company's rapidly expanding neocloud business, which currently holds 1.7 GW of compute capacity. Roughly $1 billion in income tied to bitcoin price recovery and an unspecified related-party income—potentially linked to a SpaceX investment in another company—also contributed to that number. The revenue gains are offset by total capital expenditures of $19.6 billion, as SpaceX proceeds with building a second data center project, Colossus II, and ramps up investment in Starship, the heavy lift rocket it considers essential for deploying a new generation of Starlink satellites and developing orbital data centers.
