Spotify launches CLI tool to create AI-generated podcasts from documents and articles

For several years now, applications such as Google's NotebookLM, Hero, and more recently Adobe Acrobat have enabled users to generate podcasts from existing content, including documents, daily schedules, and articles. Now, Spotify is offering the ability to access these podcasts within its own platform, though doing so requires some programming knowledge. The company announced that if you already utilize tools like OpenAI's Codex, Anthropic's Claude Code, or OpenClaw, you can employ Spotify's new CLI tool—currently in beta—to produce the podcast and upload it to Spotify for later listening.
"People are already beginning to use their agents to create personalized audio that guides their day: from summaries of class notes ahead of an exam to briefings on their calendar events. And they're requesting a way to listen to it on Spotify, where they already consume everything else," the company explained in a blog post.

These podcasts will appear in the user's Spotify library for convenient access, but they will not be shared with other Spotify users. To utilize this new feature, users can visit the tool's GitHub page and follow the provided instructions. They will be prompted to log into their Spotify accounts via a browser.
Once logged in, they can enter a prompt such as, "Create an audio session that thoroughly explores the history of the World Cup, including details about key players, host countries, and what I need to know about this year's games," and ask the agent to generate the podcast and save it to Spotify. Users will also receive a link to their podcast's Spotify listing.
