Instinct, a startup founded just last year by a 23-year-old entrepreneur, has capitalized on the recent AI boom to achieve a staggering valuation in just a few months. The company, which provides an AI assistant that has generated considerable excitement among its early adopters, announced on Wednesday that it had secured $250 million in a new Series B funding round. This latest investment brings the company's total funding to $350 million and values the startup at $2.5 billion, according to a report from the Wall Street Journal.
The funding round was co-led by Index Ventures and Benchmark. Instinct, which is operated by Spear Street Technology and led by founder Noah Shinn, is designed as an agent that can streamline daily life. Users connect the tool to their apps and devices, then interact with it through texts and phone calls. Shinn expressed his enthusiasm on Wednesday, writing in a tweet, "I'm thrilled with everything our early users are doing with Instinct. They've told us they've planned cross-country road trips, bought weekly groceries and concert tickets, and cancelled hundreds of dollars of subscriptions. Someone's even planning their wedding with Instinct."
Despite its modest, lo-fi website, Instinct is currently in private beta, yet it has already sparked debate over privacy concerns. Online, some users have raised alarms about the app's extensive permission requests and its terms of service, which they find troubling due to the potentially intrusive nature of the agreements.
