Just like with any other online service, cybercriminals can target and compromise your accounts on popular AI platforms, including ChatGPT, Claude, and Perplexity. Here, we’ll walk you through how to determine if your AI platform accounts have been breached. As always, we advise using unique passwords stored in a password manager and enabling multi-factor authentication (MFA) so that even if your password is stolen, attackers can’t gain access without that extra verification step. ChatGPT and Perplexity both support MFA. Claude, however, doesn’t use passwords at all—instead, Anthropic’s AI chatbot sends a login link to your email address. All three platforms offer similar methods for checking whether an unfamiliar device is logged into your account. Here’s a breakdown of how each one works.

**ChatGPT**

To check if someone has accessed your ChatGPT account, open it in your computer’s browser, click on your username in the bottom-left corner, navigate to “Settings,” then “Security and Login,” and finally select “Active Sessions.” This will display all the locations where you’re currently logged in. If you spot any device you don’t recognize, you can log out of that specific session. Alternatively, you can choose “Log out all” to end every session at once.

If you need to change your password, you’ll first have to log out of your account. After that, go to ChatGPT’s website, click “Log in” in the bottom-left corner, enter your email address, select “Forgot password,” and then click “Continue.” ChatGPT will email you a six-digit code. Enter that code on the login page, click “Continue,” and then set a new password. You can also use the “reset your password” link in the email you receive to see the official instructions for the process.

**Claude**

For Claude, open it in your computer’s browser, click on your username in the bottom-left corner, go to “Settings,” and select “Account.” There, you’ll find your “Active sessions.” If one looks unfamiliar, hover over it, click the three vertical dots that appear on the right, and choose “Log out” or “Terminate.”

If you prefer, you can also click “Log out of all devices.” After that, you can sign back in using your email address, and you’ll receive an email with a login link. Since Claude doesn’t support passwords at all, there’s no password to reset.

**Perplexity**

With Perplexity, the AI-powered search engine doesn’t show you where you’re currently logged in. So if you suspect someone may have gained access to your account, open Perplexity in your browser, click your username in the bottom-left corner, then choose “All settings.” Finally, select “Sign out of all sessions” and click “Confirm.”

After that, you can log back in by entering your email address. You’ll receive an email with a unique six-digit code. Enter that code on the website to sign in, or simply click the “Sign in” button in the email to log in directly.
