Google has rolled out a new AI-driven tool that transforms pictures of your clothing into a digital wardrobe—reportedly drawing inspiration from Cher's famous virtual closet app in the film "Clueless." This feature is now accessible to all users in the United States, Brazil, and India, across both iOS and Android platforms. The tech giant initially revealed the feature earlier this year, with intentions to launch it during the summer months. Android users were the first to get it, beginning in June, and now the virtual closet is open to every Android and iOS user in those supported regions.

In "Clueless," the digital closet concept served to underscore Cher's affluent lifestyle, where her vast collection of outfits necessitated a computerized tool to help her select what to wear and keep things tidy. These days, you don't need to be a wealthy Beverly Hills teen to benefit from similar technology. Google leverages AI to build a replica of your wardrobe using the items you've worn in your photos. Within the app, you can sort items by type—such as tops, bottoms, jewelry, and others—and then combine and rearrange them to form various outfits. According to Google, the feature is intended to help users, and information about your style or clothing choices isn't being shared with outside parties, such as retailers.

The wider release of the virtual closet coincides with several other updates to Google Photos, such as a method to select, brighten, and share pictures through a single prompt in Gemini Spark, an improved markup tool, and additional Remix templates that apply AI to alter your images. (The Gemini Spark capability needs a Google AI Pro or Ultra subscription within the U.S.)

Using Markup, you can employ a redacting pen to obscure private details like license plates, use accurate thickness sliders for personalized sketches, and choose among various fonts when inserting text into photos. For Android users, there are also fresh photo filters dubbed "Moods," which allow you to apply distinct aesthetics to your images, including 35mm film, 2000s digicam, and others.
