Iran Threatens Retaliatory Cyber Strikes on U.S. Data Centers in Middle East

Iran has issued a warning about potential additional attacks on data centers throughout the Middle East, citing ongoing threats and airstrikes from the United States. According to a video released late last week and widely circulated on Sunday, Iranian military spokesperson Ebrahim Zolfaghari stated that if the U.S. proceeds with threats to target Iranian civilian infrastructure, Iran will respond with strikes against American energy and technology assets in the region.

The video presents an image of a globe before focusing on the Stargate data center in the United Arab Emirates, accompanied by the message: “nothing stays hidden to our sight, though hidden by Google.” Stargate is a $500 billion joint venture involving OpenAI, SoftBank, and Oracle, announced in January 2025 to construct artificial intelligence data centers. The project initially faced challenges in launching, reportedly due to funding issues and tariff-related costs, and had plans for international expansion.

This latest threat follows a warning from U.S. President Trump, who stated he would strike Iranian civilian infrastructure—such as power plants and water desalination facilities—by the end of Tuesday if Iran does not reopen the Strait of Hormuz. This critical global shipping channel has been obstructed since the war began in February, severely disrupting worldwide supply chain traffic.

Several data centers in the region have already been damaged by missile strikes since the conflict started. Iranian missiles have hit Amazon Web Services (AWS) data centers in Bahrain and an Oracle data center in Dubai. Additionally, Iran explicitly threatened technology companies including Nvidia and Apple by name last week.
